OO Gauge HornbyR60066 HFA Hopper, BR Coal Sector – Era 8 Wagon   Brand new item direct from our new Yorkshire model railway shop.  Product InfoBuilt from 1964 to 1977, HAA wagons were built as method tomove coal more efficiently, particularly with the aim of improving to supply ofcoal to power stations. It was intended that trains of these wagons could runin a continuous loop from the colliery to the power station and back, withmachinery I place to allow loading and unloading at slow speeds. Inreality it was often the case that the infrastructure to allow this type of runningdid not exist, particularly at the collieries, but nonetheless these wagonsgreatly improved coal transfer. With the decline of Britain’s coal industrythese previously extremely common wagons have now become extremely rare withmost having been either scrapped or rebuilt as another form ofwagon. Based upon the successful HAA wagon, the HFA design added anaerodynamic canopy designed to stop coal-dust from escaping.
